Glimmers of hope

In recent years if you mention Afghanistan people immediately think of war and a country with a turbulent history.  However Afghanistan has a rich cultural heritage and the longer I am here the more I appreciate the beauty of the country, the arts and crafts of the different regions and the poetic nature of the people who live here.

I recently went around the Kabul museum and saw the many beautiful artifacts, clothes and relics of previous times here.

Creativity seems inherent in the people.  I have recently asked a lady tailor to make some clothes for me.  I provided some material and she sat and designed with me how they should look, she had some great ideas and I very much look forward to seeing the finished article.

Then there is natural beauty - the mountains, the trees, the blossom and flowers.  As I write this I can look out of my window and see the tulips my chaokidor is growing, and the budding blossom on the trees and just think how beautiful this country is.  Despite the scars of war there is beauty here and there is hope.
