I have spent most of the last month outside of Afghanistan, having some much needed rest in Thailand and Nepal. I had a great time visiting friends and sunbathing and was not looking forward to coming back.
I got back to my house on Friday and came in to find my normal chaokidar (doorman) had not only cleaned my chimney but had got both my heater and hot water boiler ready for lighting so I could get warm.
Then just I was beginning to unpack there was a knock on the door. It was my night chaokidar just wanting to say hi and let me know all that had gone on while I was away. His big welcoming smile was an encouraging sight and I felt blessed by that greeting.
